Delta, other airlines back off rate hikes

The airline industry has retreated from its first attempt to hike fares this year. The move was initiated by United Airlines (NYSE: UAL) last week. Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL), American Airlines (Pinksheets: AAMRQ) and US Airways (NYSE: LCC) followed, but Delta backed off its increase late Friday.
