Hulu to spend $2.5 billion on content in 2017

Heading into this weekend’s Emmy Awards, where Hulu is nominated for 18 prizes, CEO Mike Hopkins confirmed that the streaming service will spend about $2.5 billion on content this year. The company also aims to premiere seven new original series over the next six to nine months, reported Variety from an event at the Paley Center for Media in New York. Among streaming services, Hulu’s 2017 content budget ranks third behind Netflix and Amazon. Netflix will spend $6 billion this year and $7 billion…
