Has This Disney Director Just Confirmed That Elsa And Anna Have a Secret Brother..?by

Love it or like it – there certainly doesn’t seem to be much of an in-between – Frozen is likely to continue to stay as one of Disney’s most popular and enduring titles. It’s broken box office records and continues to gain new appreciation each time the holidays come around – cementing itself in movie history as a go-to Christmas movie. The songs, too, have become ingrained in our culture and in our heads – and for some time, there have been a number of conspiracy theories circulating as to whether or not Queen Elsa and Princess Anna of Arundel have a brother they never knew about. In an interview with MTV, Frozen’s co-director Chris Buck has opened up the floodgates to the idea that – brace yourself – Tarzan is in fact the long-lost sibling of the Frozen sisters.

It may seem to be a fairly wild claim – however, Buck himself joins the dots. Whilst in conversation to promote the launch of the Walt Disney Animation Studios Shorts Collection on Blu Ray, Buck advised that in his head, ‘Anna and Elsa’s brother is Tarzan’ – making reference to the fact that, like the ape-man’s parents, the Frozen sisters’ mother and father were cast away in a shipwreck, presumed deceased. However, as Disney’s interpretation of Tarzan tells, the woman on board the boats was pregnant – and gave birth to a son upon being washed ashore with her husband.

The seamless linking of the two stories has fuelled wild speculation for some time, however, Buck is not quick to advise that the theory is indeed canon. “Whatever people want to believe, go for it,” Buck advised MTV – approving of fans wishing to connect each and every one of Disney’s broad catalogue of tales together.

Tarzan isn’t the only movie to have found links to other films in the Disney canon, however. Frozen and the aforementioned jungle movie have also been linked with 1989’s The Little Mermaid, as fans speculate that a shipwreck Ariel explores could well be that of Tarzan’s – or indeed Anna and Elsa’s – parents. Speculation is fun – and it’s great that a lead director is entertained by the theories – but it may be considerable time before Disney fanatics get their cinematic universe. With this connection more or less tied up, perhaps it will be time for fans to start deducing how Wreck-It Ralph could be connected to Treasure Planet – you never know just how deep the rabbit hole can go!
