Carlos Tevez scores hat-trick as Manchester City win 6-1 at Norwich

Saturday, 14 April 2012

*Carlos Tevez went a long way to redemption by scoring a hat-trick to help Manchester City heap the pressure back on title rivals Manchester United with an emphatic 6-1 win at Norwich.

The Argentinean striker was joined on the scoresheet by his countryman Sergio Aguero, who bagged a brace, as the pair helped City run riot at Carrow Road.

Adam Johnson scored in injury time to complete the rout, with Andrew Surman getting the hosts' consolation. The win pulls City to within two points of the league leaders, who take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford tomorrow.Tevez opened the scoring with a thunderous long-range drive that moved in the air to deceive John Ruddy at his near post.

Aguero doubled the lead before half-time - curling the ball home from the edge of the box after a cute Tevez back-heel.

Surman pulled a goal back for the hosts after the break, following a weak punch from City stopper Joe Hart to spark a 15-minute spell of nerves for Roberto Mancini's men.

However, Tevez - who scored his first goal in almost a year when he netted City's third goal against West Brom in midweek - settled his side by heading home a rebound after Ruddy fumbled a Yaya Toure shot.

Within a minute Aguero had made it four when he ran from his own half to the left-hand side of the box, cutting back on his right to curl the ball majestically inside Ruddy's left-hand upright.

An enjoyable afternoon - and the match ball - was secured for Tevez when he latched onto a poor Ryan Bennett back-pass to round Ruddy and tap home. The much-maligned South American was replaced shortly afterwards to a warm pat on the back from Mancini, with Johnson coming on in his stead.

And it was the England winger who had the last word - the wonderful Aguero, who earlier hit the inside of the post when on a hat-trick of his own, crossing deep for Gael Clichy to cut the ball back for Johnson to sweep home.
