The Tottenham Hotspur manager’s double, Shaun Smethers, was looking forward to cashing in after Redknapp’s expected unveiling as England boss.He lined up a series of appearances for this summer’s European Championship but was left gutted when Roy Hodgson was handed the national job instead.‘Everything was looking so good but it turned into a bit of let-down,’ said the tiling company director who, like Redknapp, suffers from dyslexia.

‘When the Hodgson news came through, I couldn’t believe it.’Smethers was driving to a photoshoot when he heard that West Bromwich Albion boss Hodgson, 64, had been given the national job last week. While Redknapp, 65, has been more diplomatic at being overlooked, Smethers admitted some of his bookings have been cancelled and Hodgson lookalikes would be ‘rubbing their hands together’.The father of two, from Margate, Kent, got in touch with lookalike agencies just a month ago but his resemblance has been pointed out by friends and passers-by for the past ten years.‘To be honest, it was a bit of a bugbear,’ the 52-year-old Leeds United supporter added. ‘I did joke that if he ever got the England job, I’d apply to an agency.‘But what you’ve never had, you can’t really miss, I guess.’
