World's longest cat dies of cancerby

Stewie, the world's longest domestic cat, has died at the age of eight

RENO, NV -- Measuring 48.5 inches (1.23 meters) from nose to tail, Stewie found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest domestic cat.

Having just turned eight in January, the Maine Coon cat died in Reno, Nevada, on Monday, following a long battle with cancer.

Stewie's owner, Robin Hendrickson, said: "Stewie was always very social and loved meeting new people."



Hundreds of fans flooded Stewie's Facebook site with memories and condolences on Tuesday. Stewie was a certified therapy animal that frequently visited a Reno senior center.

"He has touched many lives, and for that I am grateful," Hendrickson said.
