Credit: Reuters[/caption] The suspected D.C. gunman who was reportedly killed in a firefight with police after fatally shooting about a dozen people at a Washington, D.C. Navy Yard is apparently a New York City native. [related tag ="gun-violence"] Officials say Aaron Alexis, 34, grew up on 77th Road in Queens. According to DNAinfo, he attended Hillcrest High School and moved around throughout the five boroughs after graduating high school, ultimately settling on Halsey Street in Brooklyn. According to public records, he was still registered to vote in Queens, though the last time he voted was 13 years ago in 2000. By Monday afternoon, police said his mother, Cathleen Alexis, was being questioned in her home in Bed-Stuy by the FBI and NYPD. His brother-in-law Anthony Little, standing in front of the family home Monday afternoon to address the public, said the family is "distraught" about about the shooting.
