US offer for nuclear talks rejected by Iranby

An offer put forward by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden to talk face to face about Iran's controversial nuclear program has been rejected by Iran's supreme leader

WASHINGTON -- Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, dismissed a U.S. offer of face to face talks about his country's disputed nuclear program on Thursday.

"Negotiating with America will not solve any problems," Kahmenei said in reaction to U.S. Vice President Joe Biden's offer to engage in direct talks - thereby prohibiting any Iran ministers to engage in bilateral talks.

"If some people want American rule to be established again in Iran and are turning a blind eye to the country's national interests and independence in order to please Americans, then the nation will confront them," he said.

Tehran, which is subject to a string of international sanctions, has long argued that its nuclear program was solely for peaceful purposes such as energy generation and research.

Iran's critics believe the government is developing nuclear weapons.
