Tuesday, 18 October 2016 () Kurdish Peshmerga forces liberated seven villages bordering Mosul Monday, as the battle to reclaim Iraq’s second city from Islamic State forces draws ever closer to its borders.
The Peshmerga fighters gained control of the villages after launching an attack on three fronts, an official said.
The battle for Mosul has seen further fierce fighting as coalition forces push closer to ISIL’s last remaining stronghold in Iraq.
Kurdish Peshmerga forces launched a huge assault north-east of the city on Sunday, saying they had captured the town of Bashiqa.
