• Manchester City manager says Robinho is 'nowhere near' fit• Club will fly player to Brazil team's base in QatarManchester City will take Robinho on their brief tour of Abu Dhabi next week in a bid to ensure he does not play for Brazil against England in Qatar a week on Saturday.Robinho has been called up into Dunga's squad for the friendly international in Qatar on 14 November, although his club manager, Mark Hughes, was adamant that he was in no fit state to play.
A persistent ankle injury has kept the Premier League's most expensive footballer out of action since City's 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup in August.
It has been more than four months since he earned the last of his 70 caps for Brazil in the Confederations Cup final in Johannesburg.Manchester City leave for Abu Dhabi next week and will then fly Robinho to join the Brazil squad in Qatar, with the intention of proving to his national team's medical staff that he is not ready to play.Hughes said: "The hope is he will come out with us to Abu Dhabi because he needs to do some training and we will fly him over to Qatar, where Brazil are based.
We will be able to get him checked out there and, when they see him, they will understand he is nowhere near ready to play in an international."He has been out for six to seven weeks, so he needs at least two weeks field-based work.
We are trying to contact Brazil's medical people to make them fully aware of his status.
We quite understand that they will want their own medical people to see him so we will facilitate that.
But they have to protect Robinho themselves, although you would like to think they wouldn't want to compromise their own players in a World Cup year."Robinho's fitness and desire to remain at Eastlands beyond next summer have been a constant source of speculation at the club that paid £32m for his services.
His frustration at not playing has been heightened by the failure of the stress fracture above the ankle to heal as anticipated and statements on the player's website that he would be fit to face Scunthorpe in last week's Carling Cup tie proved over-optimistic."We need to err on the side of caution, I am never happy throwing players straight back in," said Hughes.
"Of course, he is frustrated that he cannot play but otherwise his mindset is fine."Hughes added that Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge are likely to miss Saturday's home game with Burnley, although Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Touré will return from ankle and heel injuries respectively.
