News video: Cancer Survivors Are At A Higher Risk For Heart AttacksA new study suggests, that cancer survivors are at an increased risk for a severe type of heart attack and should a close attention to their heart health. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota reviewed data of more than 2,300 patients who have had this type of severe heart attack, called an ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Investigators found that one in ten people who had this type of heart attack, have had a history of cancer. While the study found that cancer survivors had a higher rate for a heart attack, not all of the attacks were proven to be fatal. According to the study, cancer survivors actually did not have a higher risk of death caused by heart attacks. Instead, they were three times more likely to die of non-heart-related causes.
