welcome into the sunday sports wrap, i'm andy lee......... well, the hits just keep coming for ole miss.... last night, the rebels put up a spirited effort in a 40-24 loss to lsu.... but it was de-ja-vu all over again, as the ole miss defense couldn't stop an lsu running back.... a year ago it was leonard fournette.... last night, it was derrius guice, who torched the rebel d for 276 yards..... today, ole miss announced quarterback shea patterson is out for the rest of the year with a torn pcl in his right knee.... patterson was initially injured on this 2nd quarter interception.... he left the game, but came back in the 2nd half and played with a noticable limp.... the initial diagnosis was a sprained knee, and that's why matt luke left him in the contest....... matt luke: 'well, just because we felt he gave us the best chance to win and we were told he wouldn't futher damage it and he got sacked on a play late in the 3rd maybe 4th quarter, and we gave jordan an opportunity to go in after that.' for the second straight season, ole miss loses a starting quarterback to a knee injury... in 2016, chad kelly's injury forced the red-shirt to come off of shea patterson.... with patterson done, junior jordan ta'amu is the next man up.... the hawai'i native came to ole miss after two years at the new mexico military institute.... matt luke: 'i'm very confident. he showed some flashes tonight. you know, he could do some things with his legs. i was impressed with him throwing the ball tonight. i think he led us on a touchdown drive at the end of the game, and then right before the half he led us on a field goal drive so i think that gave him some valuable experience.' phil longo: 'you know, they're very similar quarterbacks. they're both very mobile, both of them have the ability to throw the football. both of them throw the ball well. we've been in this offense with two completely different qb's and it doesn't changemuch any way, but you enjoy the mobility shea has and i think that we would enjoy the mobility that jordan has also.' the rebels host arkansas next saturday... mississippi state improved to 5-2 after a big 45-7 win over kentucky... wtva sports director jim holder was in starkville and has this recap.... jim: 'mississippi state had not looked this impressive since their win over lsu more than a month ago. nick fitzgerald and the offense very balanced once again, but the bulldog defense stepping up, holding the wildcats to just 7 points and 260 total yards.' gerri green: 'we're just getting back to where we were before the georgia loss, knowing what we're capable of doing, paying attention to little details to stop big plays that hurt us in other games.' braxton hoyett: 'it was good. all week long we were like we gotta go play to our standards and come out and play with good effort, play hard. it was one of the most important games of the year for us so we had to go out there and execute.' dez harris: 'we got back to basics with the stuff we did in the offseason, in the spring, and in camp. we worked hard, we talked about it, and decided that wasn't our standard. we decided to pick it up.' dan mullen: 'you know, just those mental errors of the guys learning the defense, growing into the defense, the attention to detail at practice. obviously our coaches are doing a great job putting them in a great situation, todd is, and i think our guys are learning the defense and playing for confident every single week.' jim: 'the bulldogs are on the road next weekend, visiting texas a m next saturday night. reporting from starkville, jim holder wtva9 sports.' thank you jim.... yesterday, nick saban put another struggling sec headcoach one step closer to the unemployment line.... saban's crimson tide manhandled tennessee 45 to 7.... alabama goes into its bye week 8-0... the volunteers fall to 3-4......... nick saban: 'i'm excited, pleased, and happy that we were able to win this game, and i'm pleased with the way we played in the second half. i thought we were a little sluggish in the first half. i thought we were a little sluggish in practice this week which kind of carried over but i'm really pleased with the way guys responded in the second half.' what a finish last night in ruston.... southern miss rallied from a11 point late4th quarter deficit to beat louisiana tech 34-27 in double overtime... the golden eagles tralied by 11 with a minute and a half to go... parker shaunfield hit a 49 yard field goal to cut the deficit to 8.... southern miss recovered an onside kick, scored a touchdown, and 2 point conversion, which you see here, to force overtime.... in the second ot, keon howard hit korey robertson for the go-ahead touchdown.... louisiana tech couldn't answer. the golden eagles improve to 5-2 with the win........ jay hopson: 'we just kept plugging, kept digging and found a way when it didn't look like there was a way. again it's just a great team win and amazing.' here's a look at the latest ap top 25 poll.... alabama still the unanimous number 1... crimson tide followed by penn state, georgia, tcu, and wisconsin.... ohio state is 6th... clemson 7th.... miami 8th... notre dame back in the top 10... fighting irish are 9th... oklahoma is 10th.... auburn is 19th... lsu 23rd.... memphis up a spot to 24th.... mississippi state received 43 votes... game as long as it benefitted hurricane irma victims.... first half.....tyson carter dishes to e.j. datcher who hits the elbow j.... datcher led all bulldogs with 12 points.... msu will lean on junior quinndary weatherspoon for scoring this year.... here's q with a nice coast-to- coast take for 2 of his 9 points... he was just 4-13 from the field..... freshman keyshawn feezell looked good.... feezell buries the mid range jumper.... he made all 5 shots he attempted and scored 10 points.... cornhuskers led by as many as 23, and held on for a 76-72 win...... ben howland: 'it helps us so much because now our guys are gonna be able to see that we got a lot of things that we need to improve on to be the team we want to be. we have 15 days of practice. it gave some guys to see....it gave me a chance to see keyshawn feazell is really gonna help this program.' we're just getting started here on the sunday sports wrap... we'll go around the nfl after the break. stay the dallas cowboys returned to action this afternoon on the west coast.... dak and the cowboys could get back to .500 with a victory over the winless 49ers..... ezekiel elliott granted a stay of execution.... zeke allowed to play for now.... he took advantage of his playing time..... gets the cowboys on the board with this one yard touchdown run.... next dallas possession.....zek e bursts through the line, and finds the end zone.... how bout them cowboys!!!!! cowboys with a quick 14-0 lead..... up 20 to 3 early in the 3rd, dallas puts it away.... dak to zeke on a screen pass....... elliott races 72 yards to paydirt...... the 49ers are bad..... dallas hammers san fran 40 to 10.... prescott finished with 3 passing tds and one on the ground!!!! dak prescott: 'we've had some good quarters and some good games, and great halves going back since the denver game moving forward. we took this bye week and figured out things we needed to get better in and we executed it well tonight.' the new york giants looking to make it 2 in a row..... big blue hosted seattle..... evan engram quickly becoming eli manning's favorite target....especially on the red zone.... the rebel to rebel connection gets the giants on the board first...... engram once again led all giant receivers with 6 catches for 60 yards and the score.... but, new york once again struggles on offense and falls to 1-6 after the 24-7 loss....... eli manning: 'i think the game plan these last couple weeks was try to keep the keep the game close, get into the 4th quarter, try and make a couple big plays. we just didn't quite make those big plays, didn't convert on 3rd and manageables today but we gotta get better with the guys we got and find a way to execute.' the saints were at lambeau field taking on the green bay earn any style points today, but they're 4-3 after a 12-9 overtime victory over the cleveland browns.... this game deserved to end in a tie, but ryan succop bailed tennessee out with a 47 yard field goal with 2 minutes left in overtime.... the titans are tied with jacksonville for first place in the afc south.... mike mularkey: 'knew it was gonna be that kind of game. got a lot of work to do, obviously red zone, you can ask questions about it, we got a lot of work to do there. we'll work on that, do a little study this bye week, but it's a good win on the road for this team.' in nascar,
