is known for its creativity and innovation. all this week-- we've been taking you inside some siouxland businesseses-- where people are still making a difference-- proudly making products locally. kcau 9's christina grijalva joins us with this week's final edition of "made in siouxland." " when one door closes-- another one opens-- or in this companies case-- it opens just a bit wider. this manufacturer of commercial doors, countertops and stone surfaces-- has been around for 61 years-- and just this week-- it went through the biggest expansion ever- - in its history. for tonight's -- 'made in siouxland' feature-- we take you to holstein, iowa for the 20-k expansion of 'v- t industries.' it's been a family affair-- that's spanned over 6 decades. v-t industries president-- douglas clausen-- says his father founded the business 62 years ago-- and what started off as a two- man operation creating vanity's and countertops-- - - grew into 7 manufacturing plants across north america. now-- just this week-- the facitlity in holstein, iowa celebrated a 20-k expansion - - a big step for v-t. (douglas clausen/ vt industries president) "we've been growing rapidly over the past 10 years and the market has really grown for us and we really needed more capacity to be able to service our customers and it's really exciting for us to be able to be a leader in our industry and to do that, we really needed our capacity to grow." the expansion adds 60 additional jobs in holstein-- which puts them between 600 and 650 employees. at the holstein location-- they only manufacture architectural wood doors-- and are consider the leaders in their craft. clausen says-- even though they have plants all over the place-- they are heavily embedded in siouxland. (douglas clausen/ vt industries president) "we've never found a bigger work ethic in the country than we have here in northwest iowa... it's our roots and the foundation of the culture that our business is built on." the mayor of holstein says-- the city is honored and thrilled to have v-t in their community. (mayor connie ludvigson/ holstein) "we are an agicultural community but as agriculture expands, it gets harder and harder to sustain communties, unless, you are blessed to have something like the manufacturing of vt." chief operating officer-- jason farver says-- the ribbon cutting was a nice way to celebrate-- and that despite teh difficulty of the construction process-- everyone is anxious for the future. (jason farver/ chief operating officer) "we've been addign 85,000 square feet onto our facility while running 15,000 doors a week so i use the analogy, 'we're trying to change the oil in the airplane while we're flying so, it's been a long process but i think people are excited." not only is there new interior and exterior to the facility-- v- t is also welcoming new technology to use-- as well as new equipment from japan and germany. farver says-- v- t ships mostly to north america and canada-- but also has a strong following in the middle east. he says people think it's awesome that their siouxland product is reachingplacc es all over the worls. (jason farver/ chief operating officer) "we're putting doors in places like 'trump towers' or big stadiums, new york yankee stadium... um we just did a couple years ago, a project that was 12,000 doors for a youth hospital in kuate. so it's fun for the local team to know that their products are really reaching out and going all over the u.s. and the world." the 20k expansion gives v-t industries the capability of running 20- thousand doors a week out of the facility-- that's a million doors a year. well that wraps up our week of special reports featuring siouxland's--
