Killing of Tyre Nichols

Following a traffic stop on January 7, 2023, Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man, was assaulted and beaten, allegedly by five Black officers of the Memphis Police Department (MPD) in Tennessee who were all members of MPD's specialized police unit called SCORPION. After the incident, Nichols was hospitalized in critical condition where he died three days later. The MPD officers have been dismissed and arrested. SCORPION has been disbanded.
