Doug Charters, who was out of work two years before he found work as a film audio technician and stagehand, said it was almost like drowning. "You get back to the beach … and you realize, oh, well, that was close." He's far from the only Albertan to go through it: one in three unemployed Albertans have been out of work for six months or more, by far the highest rate in the country.
