Judge overturns Alabama law in Birmingham Confederate memorial case

A federal judge has overturned an Alabama law designed to keep Confederate monuments in place on public property following protests in Charlottesville that turned deadly in 2017. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Michael Graffeo ruled the Memorial Preservation Act violates the free speech rights of local communities, reports the Associated Press. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said his office would appeal the verdict.  Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said the city would weigh its options…
