It was something of a coup that the Cincinnati May Festival was able to book the distinguished Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan during his 60th birthday year, when his music is being performed worldwide.  On Saturday, MacMillan, who is a creative director of this year’s May Festival, conducted his own cantata, “Seven Last Words from the Cross,” in Music Hall during the opening weekend of the two-week festival.
