Great Southern Mining Ltd (ASX:GSN) is ready to get the reverse circulation (RC) drill spinning at the recently acquired Southern Star Gold Project and surrounding prospects, with a rig scheduled for mobilisation to the site on June 1, 2021. The drilling program will begin with an initial 3,500 metres at Southern Star, aiming to confirm the continuity of the gold mineralisation, identify higher-grade gold trends and increase the known mineralised position. Drilling will then move to test the One Weight Wonder prospect where another 1,000 metres has been allocated. Subject to the results of soil sampling at Amy Clarke and prioritisation of other regional targets in the Duketon Belt, drilling may continue beyond this initial commitment of 4,500 metres. “Building on previous results” GSN chief executive officer Sean Gregory said: “We are excited to be commencing RC drilling at our recently acquired Southern Star project. “The drilling is aimed at building on the previous excellent exploration results from 2017-2018 that were achieved from less than 10,000 metres of drilling. “We also intend to test the first of our regional exploration targets including the nearby One Weight Wonder prospect and additional targets pending soil survey results.” Plan view highlighting GSN’s large tenement package and prospects. Southern Star project Southern Star is part of Great Southern Mining’s Duketon Project which encompasses more than 450 square kilometres of tenements and tenement applications under exclusive irrevocable option, in the Duketon Greenstone Belt north of Laverton in Western Australia. It is only 4 kilometres along strike from the 390,000 ounces at 1.2 g/t gold Ben Hur deposit and further along strike from the Rosemount deposit of more than 1 million ounces, both owned by Regis Resources Limited (ASX:RRL) (OTCMKTS:RGRNF). Southern Star was acquired by GSN as part of a larger tenement package in February 2021 and was most recently explored by Duketon Mining Limited in 2017-18 via a program that discovered high-grade gold mineralisation. Previous results Results included: 15 metres at 6.5 g/t gold including 4 metres at 23.3 g/t; 50 metres at 1.8 g/t including 5 metres at 9.2 g/t and 6 metres at 2.9 g/t; 50 metres at 1.6 g/t including 17 metres at 3.8 g/t; 34 metres at 2.3 g/t including 12 metres at 5.3 g/t; 25 metres at 2.5 g/t including 5 metres at 10.7 g/t; 35 metres at 1.4 g/t including 11 metres at 2.9 g/t; 12 metres at 4.0 g/t including 8 metres at 5.9 g/t; 26 metres at 1.6 g/t including 5 metres at 6.3 g/t; 15 metres at 2.2 g/t including 4 metres at 7.4 g/t; and 20 metres at 1.5 g/t including 7 metres at 3.5g/t; These exploration results were yielded from less than 10,000 metres of RC drilling, which highlights the potential for additional mineralisation to be discovered through further drilling at Southern Star, where mineralisation is open both to the north, south and down dip. One Weight Wonder One Weight Wonder is a coherent area of gold anomalism with a strike length of 1-kilometre, within 1-kilometre west of Southern Star. The anomaly is defined by three RAB drill intersections from 1995 that ran 4 metres at 2.7 g/t gold from 28 metres, 4 metres at 1.7 g/t from 28 metres and 4 metres at 1.5 g/t from 12 metres. These intersections have not been followed up until now, and the target remains open. The company has collected 850 soil samples from the field at One Weight Wonder and another regional target, Amy Clarke, with assays pending. Results will be used to further refine the drill hole locations at One Weight Wonder and other prospects.
