It’s one of the highest-profile court cases of the past decade – involving one of American TV’s biggest stars, and one whom had been regarded by a generation as their ‘TV Dad’ – as Bill Cosby, perhaps best famous for his appearances in The Cosby Show and through his iconic animated series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, faces sentencing later this year having been found convicted of sexual assault. The comedian and actor was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, amounting to what could be a total of up to 30 years behind bars. At Cosby’s current age of 81, this could mean that he will spend the rest of his life in jail - a move which will offer those affected by his crimes solace, though one which will be remembered as a shocking final twist in what had been perceived to have been an otherwise unmarked career.

Concerns about Cosby’s alleged advances towards women over the decades came to a head following this most recent court case – as the comedian now faces full sentencing on September 24th. The star’s attorneys are reportedly pushing for sentencing to take place towards the end of the year – but it is now seeming likely that he will be informed of his incarceration term this fall. Each of Cosby’s convicted charges carries around five years in jail at least – and it is thought that each of the counts he has been found guilty of will be run together. Based on this assumption, Cosby may be around 95 to 96 years of age at least when applicable for parole. This, however, is all speculative at this stage.

Cosby has been ordered to remain under house arrest, via GPS bracelet, at his mansion – with permission needing to be obtained should he wish to leave the premises. The once-revered actor and comic talent faces his career in tatters – as accusers assured a jury that Cosby was both manipulative and predatory – using drugs to allow his easy manipulation of women into various sex acts against their will. The case draws parallels with that of once-revered musician and artist Rolf Harris, who is currently serving a conviction for indecent assaults, himself an octogenarian and who is also doing time for historic attacks. In any case, the facts remain shocking – as one of the US’ most beloved stars fizzles out.
