Woody Allen Facing New Claims of Underage Liaisonby 👨‍💻 Adam Yardley

Celebrated director, writer, actor and movie auteur Woody Allen has always been something of a divisive figure in the press. In recent times, he has faced fresh allegations launched by his daughter, Dylan Farrow, with regard to sexual assault – which resulted in his latest film, A Rainy Day in New York, being pulled from release completely despite finishing production. In the age of #MeToo, Allen is one of many Hollywood figures facing pressure over a number of allegations.

This week, revelations have emerged that Allen may also have engaged in an underage relationship with a former and model and actor – Christina Engelhardt – when she was 16 years old, a year below the legal age of consent in New York state. The news emerges, according to The Guardian, on behalf of the Hollywood Reporter, whose interview with Engelhardt opened up a series of fresh new claims regarding Allen.

Engelhardt claims in the interview that she has ‘no regrets’ – and that she was in a relationship with the director for eight years from 1976 to 1984. Allen’s team is yet to respond to such reports, though Engelhardt also provided a supposed note from Allen to give weight to the speculation.

“I hope you’re happy and well,” the note reads. “I recall our times together fondly. If you’re ever in New York I would love you to meet my wife – she’d like you. We get out to California every so often. If you’d like I’d call and perhaps we could all get together.” The note, from 2001, is thought to be the last time Allen was in contact with Engelhardt.

Allegations surrounding Woody Allen appear to have split Hollywood to some extent, with some stars speaking out against being involved in his films, while others have taken the approach to defend him. Those in the latter include Jude Law and Javier Bardem – while both Colin Firth and Rebecca Hall have publicly severed all ties.

With Allen’s last film having been pulled entirely from release, it remains to be seen quite where his career will lead next – with the #MeToo campaign having given more weight to Farrow’s claims of abuse, it remains to be seen whether or not the director can emerge from the scandals to appeal to as wide a populace as he did before. With Harvey Weinstein continuing to face charges, this is a campaign which is far from over.
