While comic book movie fans remain buzzing regarding the forthcoming Infinity War crossover, set to star all major Avengers and a host of villains and characters from elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, work continues on movies which are set to make up what is being called ‘Phase 4’ of the MCU. Movies in this phase are set to include – reportedly – a second Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, a fourth untitled Avengers film and a standalone movie for Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson in the title role – who is thought to be popping up in Infinity War at the end of April. The movie will be another origin story of sorts, it is thought, and will take place in the not-too-distant past – and for many Marvel fans, this means welcoming back a few faces we’ve already seen killed off in the canon.
Production has this week begun on Captain Marvel, meaning that it could well be one of the first new Marvel movies out of the gate once Infinity War has been settled. Fans are excited to be welcoming back Nick Fury – who, of course, helped to bring the Avengers together – along with a handful of other characters whom you may never thought you’d see again. Thanks to casting announcements, we know that Clark Gregg will be returning as Agent Coulson (last seen in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD for TV, though killed off in the movies), while Guardians of the Galaxy fans will recognize Lee Pace’s Ronan, who will reportedly return alongside Djimon Hounsou to reprise characters who we’ve already likely seen the end of in the main canon.

Going back in the timeline, therefore, could hold tons of possibilities – quite where Captain Marvel will fit in with regard to Infinity War and with regard to her own movie remains to be seen, though fans are especially excited to see where things go once the threat of Thanos and the Infinity Stones are handled – and how – in the weeks to come. With tons of characters set to clash and head up what’s being called – in memes and elsewhere – as one of the most ambitious crossovers of all time – it’s also going to be time to start praying your favorites make it out alive. Will we see Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner in Phase 4? Time will tell.
