Is a Third Bill and Ted Movie Ever Going to Happen? The Stars Weigh In

Is a Third Bill and Ted Movie Ever Going to Happen? The Stars Weigh Inby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

With such a huge focus on 80s pop culture and entertainment staples still seeping in through our current movies and TV shows – with last weekend's Ready Player One releasing in cinemas complete with as many 80s icons and hit songs as it can possible cram in – it’s a wonder that there is anything left at all form the decade that hasn’t been seized upon or revived in some way. One of the biggest properties of the time, which remains a huge cult hit to this day – is Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, which focused on two dorky, rock-obsessed teens travelling through time via telephone box. Honestly – it made more sense at the time, though it’s certainly still a great watch to this day!

The movie spawned a sequel – Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey – but since the early 90s, these two bastions of their time period have all but fizzled away. Keanu Reeves, who played Ted, has of course gone on to be a household Hollywood name (with recent news regarding John Wick 3 pushing the star back into the headlines) – Alex Winter, aka Bill, may not have had the mainstream hits that Reeves has endured, but he has still kept busy – and he has been one constant source of news and speculation with regard to a third Bill and Ted adventure.

According to a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, both Winter and Reeves are open to the prospect of coming back to the big screen as their 80s characters, even though they would now be in their 40s/50s. The duo have advised that they project has been in development hell for around a decade now, with scripts and personnel being passed backwards and forwards – though it’s thought that Dean Parisot is attached as director for the eventual project, with an idea being thrashed out via script for Bill and Ted to take on a Christmas Carol-style journey. Certainly, with the original movies being roughly 30 years old now, it would be interesting to see where life took these would-be rock stars – especially as the movie’s lore itself states that they would eventually become massive rockers.

Watch: 'Bill & Ted Face the Music' Could Actually Become A Reality

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility – after all, Ghostbusters 3 certainly emerged after some time albeit in a form few were expecting – will the same be done for the Wyld Stallyns? Let’s wait and see!
