It does still seem bizarre that there are Marvel entities out there which aren’t under the jurisdiction of Disney and Marvel Studios – Deadpool, for example, and X-Men, are still very much their own entities – but one of the most bizarre cases of recent years is that of Venom. Fans of Spider-Man will know that the titular character, aka Eddie Brock, is one of Peter Parker’s most iconic adversaries – and the decision to give Brock and his fearsome Venom symbiote appearance their own movie remains an intriguing decision to have been made. A teaser trailer that confirms very little – and rumors going around that the iconic look of Venom comic book fans know and love will have next to no role in the movie – haven’t exactly helped the hype – and neither has extraordinary hype for Marvel’s own Infinity War, due out at the end of April. New details, however, seem to be leaking through which could settle a few fears.
According to sources such as Bleeding Cool and Dark Horizons, it seems that Woody Harrelson’s involvement in the movie is becoming clearer – with unsubstantiated rumors, at present, emerging that the actor may be on board to play Carnage, another fearsome adversary of Spider-Man. It’s not clear whether or not Harrelson will portray Carnage in the main film itself or in an after-credits teaser – he’s apparently credited as ‘Dr Carlton Drake’ – but with the star having aligned himself in leading roles in big franchises in recent years (Planet of the Apes, Star Wars) – and that he has had a tendency to drift towards villain pieces – such speculation may not be too far off.

Beyond these rumors, one of the biggest sticking points for fans of Venom remains the fact that we don’t yet know what Eddie Brock will look like once fully transformed. Tom Hardy, who will be playing the lead role, has had to quell fan concern over whether or not the famous Venom ‘symbiote’ look will have a role to play at all – and some sources are speculating as to whether leaked designs of promotional bottle of Brisk Iced Tea have given away the final look of the central creature. Whether or not a sweet beverage has given the game away, it’s highly likely we’ll see more of the Venom promotional train once hype for Infinity War dies down!
