It’s safe to say that Simon Pegg’s unique British charm has taken Hollywood by storm over the past few years, and it’s thanks to iconic roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz that have put him right in the epicenter of stardom. He’s since become a mainstay in franchises as big as Star Trek, Mission Impossible, even Ice Age – and it was only going to be a certain amount of time before he was asked with regard to where he stands on the comic book genre. Pegg, despite being a major player in Hollywood, seems to have avoided the allure of comic book movies despite being a self-confessed nerd – and during press interviewing for the forthcoming Mission Impossible: Fallout, Screen Rant asked Pegg directly as to whether or not he wanted to get into the movie superhero game. For anyone hoping that the star has designs on getting into the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon – or for anyone hoping that perpetuating Captain Britain rumors are anything solid, get ready to be disappointed.

“I think somebody asked me recently, at an interview that had nothing to do with superheroes, ‘what superhero would I like to play?’ – and I just sort of said Captain Britain,” establishes Pegg. “I figured that was a good answer. Suddenly, all these rumors popped up – ‘oh, Simon Pegg wants to play Captain Britain’ – I don’t really (…) I try to take every job as it comes. I don’t have any ambition really to be in anything else, other than what I’m in now.”

“If something comes up and it looks good, of course it’ll be fun – I love watching the Marvel films, they’re always so well executed – they’ve done a fantastic job with that sort of extended universe of movies, but I’m happy to be an audience member.”

While the news may be disappointing to anyone hoping Pegg would pop up in the MCU in the near future, his reply doesn’t necessarily suggest he is averse to certain projects – just that, unlike certain reports going around, he isn’t as desperate to be the big-screen version of Captain Britain any time soon.

Mission Impossible: Fallout promises to be the big action movie this summer, and with Pegg, Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson and Henry Cavill on board, it’s promising to be a star-studded affair at the very least!
