The Sony Playstation Classic's Games Line-Up Revealed: But Where's Crash and Spyro?by 👩‍💻 Stephanie Boyd

Any serious gamer – into retro videogames or otherwise – will already know that there has been an enormous boom in recent years for ‘classic’ versions of old consoles working their way back into homes. This miniature, HD-revitalized versions of games machines that many of us played during our youth are now common spectacles in bedrooms all over the world again – with Nintendo having led the way with their NES and SNES classic consoles, these machines come with a stack of old games built-in – and earlier this year, Sony tantalized the gaming world by announcing that they would be unleashing their own HD celebration of classic PlayStation titles this holiday season.

The Sony PlayStation Classic, which is set to go on sale across available territories in early December, has been shrouded in mystery. Up until recently, only a few titles were revealed to be part of the final line-up – leaving many wondering what big names could be waiting to be unleashed ahead of December’s hotly-anticipated launch. Prayers have, it seems, finally been answered this week, as it has emerged that Sony have put together their full roster of 20 games for players to enjoy on the run-up to Christmas.

Leading the pack are the likes of Tekken 3 and Final Fantasy VII, but the final roster does also contain a number of nice surprises for those who remember the heyday of the PlayStation. The full roster includes:

· Final Fantasy VII

· Tekken 3

· Ridge Racer Type 4

· Grand Theft Auto

· Resident Evil: Director’s Cut

· Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee

· Rayman

· Destruction Derby

· Battle Arena Toshinden

· Metal Gear Solid

· Twisted Metal

· Syphon Filter

· Mr Driller

· Intelligent Qube

· Cool Boarders 2

· Wild Arms

· Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

· Revelations: Persona

· Jumping Flash

· Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six

The line-up contains more than a few big titles, and some surprises – but many are more surprised to see that iconic PlayStation standards such as Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo and even Spyro the Dragon have been omitted. Has this roster been built to celebrate some of the more obscure names in the Sony library? Perhaps – or, perhaps Sony has something else up its sleeve depending upon the success of this first release. With Crash and Spyro in particular having recently had anniversary collections released, it’s not like there’s absolutely no access to their classic titles – but what’s here will likely entice a legion of players old and new this holiday season.
