The Next James Bond Movie Gets Pushed Back – Again

The Next James Bond Movie Gets Pushed Back – Againby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

If there’s a movie which appears to be going through something of an unbalanced production in recent years, it seems to be the next James Bond movie. While the Bond movies continue to be widely appreciated and some of the most recent efforts have been very well-received indeed, the ongoing production of what is only known as Bond 25 has been grabbing headlines for a few confusing reasons. For one, it has only recently been confirmed – more or less – that current Bond actor Daniel Craig would be returning as the super-spy for his fifth outing.

It was also widely reported that, not long after he took the role of director, Trainspotting’s Danny Boyle famously exited the director’s chair, leaving the path open to Cary Joji Fukunaga to pick up in his stead. It had all but been confirmed that Bond 25 would be well underway by spring 2019. However, it now seems that Bond fans will have a little longer to wait before they next see Bond fighting international supervillains.

The official Twitter channel for the Bond franchise, according to NME, confirmed recently that the next movie will now be debuting in April 2020, two months later than initially planned. As noted by some media outlets, it’s not the first time that things have changed shape dramatically behind the scenes – though Bond movies do carry a certain weight to them – their releases are often seen as global cinematic events!

The title of the next movie hasn’t even been released yet – though it does carry a huge accolade on its shoulders as being the 25th feature film in the main James Bond canon – if there is one – to hit the big screen. There are very few details known about Bond 25 at this time. After the spy’s last outing in SPECTRE ended with the suggestion that Daniel Craig may be leaving the role, it is all the more surprising to see the actor back again. But after this – is he truly done with the franchise? Who’s to say?

It’s not uncommon for movies of a certain hype to avoid revealing their titles. In one such recent instance, filming has reportedly wrapped on Star Wars Episode IX, due for release this holiday season – and we’re still no clearer as to what it will be called. Will Bond 25 have a classic, campy title comparable to older movies in its canon? Or will it go the Skyfall and SPECTRE route? Chances are we’ll be finding out at least before April 2020 rolls around.
