Official Charts Seem To Have Closed Their Scottish Singles Chart

A strange move...

The Official Chart Company seem to have ditched their Scottish singles chart.

The long-standing run down honed in on the Scottish market, which tends to differ from the UK as a whole in both subtle and striking ways.

As 2020 draws to a close the Official Chart Company have *quietly nixed their North of the Border singles countdown*, stopping it on November 27th.

Radio broadcaster and all-round nice guy Jim Gellatly spotted the decision, and tweeted his displeasure:

It was a great platform for acts like @TheSnuts @LukeLaVolpe and @joshua_grantt to boast their profiles with No.1 hits early in their careers.https://t.co/6t8KUJopHh

It certainly seems a strange move, with the Official Charts having added genre specific rundowns - the Afrobeats Chart, the Folk Chart - earlier in the year.

So, what gives? One online query found the Official Chart company claiming that *"data limitations"* preventing them being able to continue with publication of the chart.

The Scottish Albums chart, though, will continue.

A disappointing development, for sure.
