The social media backlash was “the hardest couple of weeks of my life...”

*Driift* co-founder Ric Salmon has spoken about his company's involvement with the *Glastonbury* live-stream.

A special digital event to bring fans together in these COVID times, *Live From Worthy Farm* featuring a brand new Radiohead project, Coldplay, Jorja Smith, Wolf Alice, and more.

At least, that's if you could get online - due to a hitch with entry codes, many fans were locked out of an event they had paid for.

Driift took the brunt of online criticism, but in the end a solution was found, with fans able to watch the event online.

Speaking to the *Telegraph*, Driift co-founder Ric Salmon has discussed his feeling of horror when he realised the technical glitch had occurred.

“You have to remain calm but of course you feel sick to your stomach and you feel like your head’s been disassociated from your body,” he said.

Continuing, he called the social media backlash “the hardest couple of weeks of my life”.

Salmon says that the Glastonbury team have been supportive throughout, but he reiterated: “Even if the stream is six and a half hours long, it’s not good enough if you can’t see the first 90 minutes of it. It is as simple as that...”

The fault was due to a third party operator who had been tasked to supervise the entry codes, and created a situation akin to “buying a ticket for a concert and then the security guard not letting them in”.

“We have to find a solution to this going forward as we can’t be reliant on other people for these things,” he said. “There has to be a robust solution because the problem is that one tiny link in the chain goes wrong and the whole thing fucks up.”

In all, Driift spent five months working on the live stream, while Live At Worthy Farm had almost 900 people in site in Worthy Farm.

Ric Salmon closed: “It was so close to being perfect on every level.”
