*Sister Cookie* returns with new retro-soul banger 'Can't Get It When You Want It'.

The London via Lagos singer has been a fixture of the city's soul scene for some time, matching fiery live performances to the odd DJ spot, too.

Scooping the prestigious Record Store Day Unsigned 2020 award, she then went into the studio to focus on her debut album.

The incoming LP 'In The Blue Corner' moves from jazz to blues via rock 'n' roll, all while adding her own refreshing twist on these aspects.

New single 'Can't Get It When You Want It' is a punchy, horn-drenched slice of dancefloor action, with Sister Cookie commenting:

“I was inspired by the sultry siren songs of Eartha Kitt and Nina Simone, through the big bold sassy rhythm and blues of Dinah Washington and Lavern Baker, and all the way back into to the sound of Bessie Smith. From start to finish, a cool, mellow minor key swing in the verses is punctuated by a sense of urgency in the rhythm section… focusing on dark side of love and sensuality... that desperate, painful ache of longing offset against coquettish teasing.”

David Wren filmed the video, which also doubles as a part of his personal project My World, My Rules.

He says: “Cookie's voice is powerful and brilliant; combining that with her personality and stage presence she really kick-started this whole project. I love how this video has come together, showing how creative minds can combine forces and come away with a video that shows the true artist. The real Sister Cookie.”

Tune in now.
