'Amethyst'

Italian composer *Marta Del Grandi* crafts art that seems to slip beyond genre lines.

Bucolic yet often emotionally complex, her songwriting - patching electronic synths against ambient elements, with a touch of modern classical - seems to tap into areas that go beyond words.

Freshly signed to Fire Recordings, her new album 'Until We Fossilize' is out on November 5th, and it finds Marta exploring fresh ground.

Melding together mythology and personal resonance, she describes it thus: "It's modern and ancestral at the same time..."

New song 'Amethyst' dips into Greek myth, its electronic undulations purring in the manner of, say, Delia Derbyshire's early experiments, or even Mercury nominee Hannah Peel.

The interwoven vocal elements transform Marta Del Grandi into a one-woman choir, an ambitious technical achievement with supreme emotional heft.

Film maker Rishi Jha shot the video in Switzerland, utilising a site dominated by a river that flows on a bed of metamorphosed rocks.

Carefully building on the mythological references in her lyricism, the clip seems to craft an entire world - tune in now.
