4 reasons why you should go back to the movies in 2016by 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

As One News Page has reported via our dedicated Movie Reviews section, 2016 has been an extremely varied year for quality films – from the highs in Disney’s fantastic Zootopia and The Jungle Book, to recent lows in A Hologram For The King, Top Cat Begins and mediocre disappointment in Alice Through The Looking Glass, it’s been a year that has had its fair share of winners and losers – and critical flops such as Batman V Superman : Dawn of Justice has gone on to become a box office sales success, indicating that there really is no accounting for taste! In any case, as we approach the halfway mark for the year, there’s all the more reason to look forward to the second onslaught of big-screen entertainment coming our way from July onwards. Here are four of our picks for movies we think will be worth buying tickets for in the months to come.

FINDING DORY

2016 has been a fantastic year for Disney – Alice Through the Looking Glass aside – and their partnership with Pixar looks set to reap even more box office millions as we return to the world of Finding Nemo for the first time in over a decade. Arguably one of Pixar’s most charming and entertaining movies, the movie focuses on Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) as she strives to find her long-lost family. With obvious graphical improvement since the previous installment and the classic Pixar charm evident even in early trailers, Finding Dory looks set to be a summer triumph that could even unseat Zootopia as our movie of the year so far.

SUICIDE SQUAD

Suicide Squad is a unique beast in that it will focus on a band of comic rogues and villains in DC’s second movie to hit theaters in 2016. With reports that the movie has undergone tonal changes following the critical reception to Batman V Superman, we will see the Dark Knight once again in the Margot Robbie and Jared Leto fronted Suicide Squad, which is said to have received positive remarks from early screenings. While we will have to wait until August to see just how everything plays out, we will remain quietly optimistic.

ROGUE ONE : A STAR WARS STORY

A completely unprecedented move in cinema as the first true spin-off from the main Star Wars canon, Rogue One will take us into the world of the franchise before Luke, Leia et al first take on the Empire in A New Hope. While the movie has supposedly had 40% of its scenes re-shot according to recent news, this December release hopes to recapture the interest and box office success that The Force Awakens commanded late last year – and if the trailer is anything to go by, we shouldn’t see why not!

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

Quite possibly set to be one of the year’s biggest hits late on into 2016’s calendar, the Harry Potter spinoff is gaining considerable steam after confirmation that it wouldn’t be a standalone movie, and would in fact be the start of a new franchise. Potter’s story may be over, but we are just a little bit excited to get back to the world of wizarding in November – and with the lead role in Eddie Redmayne’s capable hands, this is shaping up to be one of our most anticipated pictures this year.
