Whether you follow movie news or not, and whether or not you consider yourself a fan of 007’s super-spy antics across the continents, it must be agreed that the speculation regarding who will be next for the role of James Bond is growing all the more confusing. While bookmakers have long since opened up odds on who will take over from Daniel Craig once the blonde bombshell hangs up his gadgets, it’s still not exactly clear as to whether or not the Liverpudlian has chosen to leave the role after all. Craig’s last Bond movie, 2015’s SPECTRE, ended on a note which suggested that it may now be time for a new direction for the agent – but there is still suggestion in the air that Craig may well return for another round of high-octane hijinks and stunts.
Naomie Harris, who was recently awarded the OBE and who recently starred in the critically lauded Moonlight, has added fuel to the fire of speculation regarding just how tied Craig is to the role. It’s been reported that Harris believes there is a ‘very good chance’ of the actor coming back to Bond for one more go, despite news to the contrary having floated around the media last year. Harris has worked closely with Craig on the most recent Bond movies as Moneypenny. Harris also believes that it is far too early for another actor to be considered as 007 – and Craig has also reached the accolade of being the second-longest Bond in cinema history, truly stamping his mark. From a start where many weren’t sure on the direction he may have taken the character in, he has since wowed audiences – particularly in Skyfall, which was regarded by many to be one of the greatest Bond movies of all time.
Craig had allegedly previously stated that he hated the idea of returning to the role, but is also thought to have referred to James Bond as the ‘best job in the world’ – so which is it to be? It’s thought that studios involved are keen to pay the actor a fair wage to stay on – but will he reprise the agent for one last spell in the forthcoming landmark Bond 25 – yet to be named? Whether you follow 007’s antics or if you simply love action movies, we’re afraid you are going to have to wait and see.
