The news that Sam Mendes would be leaving the director’s chair for the next James Bond movie – tentatively titled Bond 25, and with all manner of rumors still circulating regarding whether or not Daniel Craig will stay on in the role – came as something of a surprise to many. Skyfall and Spectre in particular helped to redefine the secret agent in a series of shocking twists and turns – and with the death of a particularly beloved running character in the process. But who will be taking up the reins of 007 – and what bizarre new adventures await the long-running character?
Tongues have been set wagging recently after it emerged that a certain production company – Syncopy – has been associated with Bond 25 on IMDb. It’s hardly an official confirmation, however, it’s who is behind the firm that has really got people talking. For those not in the know, Syncopy is the production company of acclaimed director Christopher Nolan – meaning that, for film fans, it could mean that one of the most celebrated movie auteurs in recently years could be heading towards one of the most important cinematic franchises of all time.
Nolan is of course best known for helming the Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar and Inception – some of his works are among the best-rated on IMDb’s Top 250 all-time list, meaning that he is hardly an unknown entity. Certainly, a director of Nolan’s gravitas and accolades will be highly sought-after – but what could he bring to the table in terms of Bond?
Bond 25, yet to be titled officially, is slowly moving ahead – and while official statements or news regarding Syncopy and Christopher Nolan are yet to emerge to solidify what has been alleged on IMDb, it appears that screenwriters are being lined up as well as plans to bring Daniel Craig back a further time as the superspy. Craig was previously thought to be departing the role but some sources claimed that he would return after talks continued – and while Spectre seemed to close the door on Craig’s run satisfactorily, it appears we may not have seen the last of the blonde bombshell in the role just yet.
Bond movies certainly seem to take on a certain mystery ahead of their release – and it will likely be some time before plans are solidified and released to the public. Stay tuned!
