Bond Is Back - But We're Very Short On Details

One News Page Staff Friday, 28 July 2017
Bond Is Back - But We're Very Short On Detailsby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

The future of James Bond has been up in the air for a little while now – and as 007’s most recent outing on the big screen, SPECTRE, ended with a rather satisfying conclusion, it remained wholly speculative as to where the world’s most famous secret agent would go next. It remained up in the air, too, as to whether or not current 007, Daniel Craig, would return for a fifth movie. Despite having been quoted as saying he certainly didn’t wish to keep playing the agent, some media reports suggested he had signed up via a lucrative new deal. There has also been rampant rumor surrounding who will be set to direct what is being codenamed Bond 25, the 25th official movie under the James Bond banner – with Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan’s name having been hurried around for some time.

However, while neither of these details have been firmed up, it is all the more odd that we have a release date for Bond 25 – a tentative one, at least. We will apparently get to see the next installment in 007’s adventures hit the big screen in fall 2019, meaning that we have a little over two years until details are fleshed out in full. There’s very little information beyond this release date in terms of what is occurring with the production – at least, in terms of who is starring, who is directing, and what the name of the movie will actually be!

What we do know is that Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have previously brought a handful of recent Bond movies to our screens, are back on board – suggesting that it may be one more outing for Craig on the slate. If Craig is to star, it may undo SPECTRE’s rather finite and fitting ending – and, as always, media outlets are still running books on who ‘the next Bond’ will be. This, inevitably, may well have the likes of Tom Hardy and Idris Elba rolling their eyes as speculation over their alleged involvement rolls around yet again.

It’s not even clear who will be releasing and distributing the movie just yet – so far, Bond 25 is a real mystery – though fans will be delighted with the release date in place as it sets a deadline for all this conjecture to simmer down. In the meantime, we are simply going to have to go back and re-watch the classics again!
