Historic sexual allegations made against actor Kevin Spacey have landed the star in a world of controversy in the past few weeks – resulting in his expulsion ▶ from a movie he’s already finished filming – and a number of issues befalling his landmark Netflix series, House of Cards. While it was initially reported that Spacey was no longer on set – and that the season currently being filmed will be the last. However, it seems that the show has been thrown into a frozen limbo, forcing several staffers’ employment into a huge question mark-shaped oddity of a mess.
Thankfully, while those working on House of Cards will not be present on set, they will continue to be paid while production is on hiatus, according an email sent to CNN by the production company Media Rights Capital, who had initially forwarded the missive to employees privately. MRC is still investigating several allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey, following an initial revelation made by actor Anthony Rapp regarding an unwanted advance he had received when he was a minor. During such investigations, the company has effectively put House of Cards on hiatus – with no updates due on the horizon until at least December 8th.

However, some sources close to the production suggest that the show’s sixth season will not be its last – and that ways and means into continuing without Spacey are being discussed. These rumors persist following Netflix advising that they would no longer have a part in hosting the show in their catalogue should Spacey remain on board. This, of course, led to MRC suspending the star completely. The allegations made against the actor have resulted in the show teetering in limbo for almost two months, with no clear resolution in sight – though staffers and actors on board the series are hopeful for some form of plan to come into fruition by the year’s end.
Quite what will happen with the hugely popular series will remain to be seen – and whether or not Netflix will ever host prior episodes featuring Spacey’s main character, Frank Underwood, in future updates to the library, also remains something of a mystery. Allegations made against Spacey, including those made by Rapp which he apologized publicly for on Twitter, come following mass allegations against former movie titan Harvey Weinstein, who faces multiple police investigations into historic sexual misconduct – having lost a number of accolades and award memberships since the news broke.
