It certainly seems to be the in thing to convert classic 80s and 90s movies into current properties that can be enjoyed by modern audiences – and while many of the old films that have been converted still hold up on their own, this is a market that really is making money. The latest take on Jumanji was a critical and financial success, meaning that spirited takes on existing properties may be rolling out even more in the years to come – and, if recent news regarding another big remake is to believed, we could be in for a whole new board game – quite literally.
Those of us who love our board game-themed movies will no doubt be interested to hear that plans are moving firmly ahead to remake murder mystery Clue for the big screen once again in the very near future. The original 80s movie starred the likes of Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd and Madeline Kahn, and it remains one of the best examples of truly madcap comedies of its time – with plenty of plot twists to boot. The board game surrounds the murder of a Dr Black, with six house guests all being potential culprits – and while the movie adaptation bent the story and the identities of the characters a little, it retained a huge sense of fun and took the concept to a whole new level of daft. Whether or not the same style will be retained in the remake remains to be seen – but what we do know is that scriptwriters for the immensely funny Deadpool are on board.
They’re not the only Deadpool alumni on the project, as the man himself – Ryan Reynolds – is attached to appear. Reynolds has already been cast rather surprisingly as the voice of Nintendo favorite Pikachu (yes, really) in the upcoming live action-animation hybrid Detective Pikachu – meaning that this could be a fairly interesting couple of years for fans of the actor. Deadpool 2, of course, is on the horizon, too – only helping to brighten Reynolds’ Hollywood star. Despite having done his share of various action movies and romantic set pieces over the years, it seems that the actor is really finding his niche in comedy – and long may he continue.
Whodunnit? Professor Plum? Miss Scarlet? Mrs Peacock? Find out soon enough – and for now, get watching the hilarious original!
