The Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie Is Still Happening – with This Famous Writer and Director

The Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie Is Still Happening – with This Famous Writer and Directorby

While it may be a few years now since the PC jumpscare fest Five Nights at Freddy’s first took flight with its complex backstory and, at the time, innovative horror gameplay, it seems that there is still enough belief in a brand which has largely been swept away by a raft of never-ending sequels. While many of these games have been acclaimed, the backstory of the games has grown beyond all initial proportion – making it one of the most talked-about games in terms of lore alone on YouTube and on its own subreddit. However, like Pokemon Go, the game seems to have faded from mass public consciousness over the past few years – but this doesn’t seem to have stopped the pop culture train from rolling on, with news that a movie based on the haunted pizzeria games – no joke – will still come to fruition.

It’s emerged that Blumhouse Productions, known for producing horror movies in particular, will bring the cursed animatronic line-up to life in the months to come – with Hollywood mainstay Chris Columbus (the writer behind Gremlins and The Goonies and the director of Home Alone and two Harry Potter movies) reportedly on board to write and direct. This could be an incredible coup – the project is thought to have been stuck in limbo for some time now, with many people concerned as to how a story surrounding the games – which have already branched forth so much in terms of lore – could be brought to the big screen. Regardless of how or why, it seems that Freddy Fazbear and co look set to scare us silly within the next few years.

There’s no telling quite how the movie will turn out, nor whom it may be aimed at – the games have quite a young fanbase despite its material being extraordinarily dark at times – meaning that we could be seeing a PG-13 romp through murderous pizzeria corridors in the near future. It’s highly unlikely we’ll get an R-rated adventure – though most people are concerned with just which direction the series can go in, particularly bearing in mind that there has been so much development within the games and the two novels that have been released alongside. Will we still be ready for Freddy in, say, 2020? Let’s wait and see… in the meantime, it may be best to dig out the games again!
