Another Marvel Character Gets a Stand-Alone Movie – But Won’t Be Part of the Cinematic Universeby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

Anyone who regularly reads our columns here at One News Page will already know that there has been plenty of news as of late with regards to how Marvel Studios and their line of comic movies have been performing at the box office. Landmark success Black Panther continues to sweep up box office money and bust records wide open – with the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War set to excite even more Marvel maniacs in the coming weeks. That movie has even been moved ahead slightly – with just short of two months to go.

The Marvel universe is home to hundreds and thousands of weird and wonderful characters – many of them yet to make even a cameo appearance on the big screen – but one such hero who has been off the screen in recent years is the Silver Surfer. The intergalactic boarder – who was last seen in the 2007 movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer – looks set to make good on surfing straight onto the silver screen once again with his own adventure. However, anyone hopeful that he will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be about to be disappointed.

Fox are responsible for bringing a number of Marvel heroes to the big screen, and while the brand has been acquired by Disney to some degree, there is no clear indication that their properties and heroes will join up with Marvel Studios’ band of heroes and baddies. This includes the likes of Deadpool and X-Men, though this may change in the future – you only have to look at the critical failure of the Fantastic Four reboot a few years back to see that there are still a few niggles to be ironed out on the Fox front.

The Silver Surfer will therefore be emerging in his own adventure in the years to come thanks to Fox – with a script currently in progress. Many are pondering whether or not we will get a full origin story for the character – or if he will team up with other characters that Fox has rights to. It is perhaps bizarre in times like this to see Marvel characters outside of the MCU still appear in standalone movies – but who’s to say we won’t see Silver Surfer, Deadpool or Wolverine emerge in universe movies in the years to come?
