Did This Character Die in 'The Last Jedi'? Not If the Actor Has Anything to Do With It

Did This Character Die in 'The Last Jedi'? Not If the Actor Has Anything to Do With Itby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

If you haven’t had chance to catch the latest Star Wars instalment – The Last Jedi – which has been entertaining fans the world over for a number of months now – we certainly won’t do the awful thing and spoil it for you, certainly not with a home release around the corner. This is therefore your chance to stop reading – as massive spoilers for the end of the movie are set to follow this sentence.

The eighth episode of the Star Wars saga saw now-exiled Jedi Luke Skywalker apparently die following a hologram battle with resident villain Kylo Ren – though his actual passing was hinted at as opposed to being physically depicted on-screen, it was the second huge death from the franchise in a row following Han Solo’s death at the hands of his son (Ren) in The Force Awakens. Fan theories have been popping up all over the place – with some theorizing that teleportation as shown in the spin-off animated series Star Wars Rebels could have been used by Skywalker to transport him elsewhere in the wider universe. Beyond this, however, there’s little other answers available – as it seems that the Jedi’s death was all but confirmed.

One such voice among those who claim that Luke is certainly alive and well is Mark Hamill – Skywalker himself – who recently advised in interview that he ‘refuses’ to buy into the notion that Luke is gone for good. Speaking tongue-in-cheek with the BBC, Hamill was more than creative about where exactly Skywalker could have ended up, having effectively vanished from his remote island.

“I refuse to believe that he’s gone – my theory is he just teleported to somewhere else and left his robe behind – he teleported to a nudist colony – that’s what I’m hoping!” ScreenRant paraphrased recently. It may seem like a fanciful notion that Skywalker is still alive – particularly as his disappearance is all but confirmed as the final throes for the character – and Hamill’s words not only add weight to fan theory, but also give a little bit of a humorous spin to matters!

With Han Solo and now Luke Skywalker having been axed from the main canon – and with Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) having passed away during the filming of this most recent picture, it seems that the next episode may be the first without the ‘main three’ from the original trilogy – meaning that the forthcoming final film in the latest trilogy could be a very different affair indeed.
