Ursula Von Der Leyen Will Lead European Commission As New PresidentGermany's Ursula von der Leyen was elected by just nine votes as the European Union's top job on Tuesday after promising to address climate change and address gender inequality while uniting the bloc, according to Politico Europe. The 60-year-old former defense minister of Germany won the secret ballot in Strasbourg to replace Jean-Claude Juncker as president of the European Commission. “I feel so honored and I am overwhelmed and I thank you for the trust you placed in me,” Ursula von der Leyen said after the results were announced. “The trust you placed in me is the confidence you placed in Europe," Von der Leyen said.
