India is banning all e-cigarettes over fears about youth vaping
Wednesday, 18 September 2019 India on Wednesday announced a complete ban on the sale of all e-cigarettes, saying the devices posed a health risk, especially to young people. "Unfortunately, e-cigarettes got promoted initially as a way in which people can get out of the habit of smoking cigarettes. It was to be a weaning process from using cigarettes," Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Wednesday after a Cabinet meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired Union Cabinet meeting at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on July 08. Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among others attended the meeting. Several other cabinet ministers were also present in the meeting. Certain key decisions are expected to be taken at the meeting.
Speaking on the controversial remarks given by the TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee on the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP leader and spokesperson Sambit Patra on July 05 said that the remark in not only 'racist' but also 'misogynist'. He said, "TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has called Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman 'Kala Nagini' which is highly condemnable. The comment has been made in a state where Goddess Kali is worshipped in every household. The remark is not only racist but also misogynist." Earlier, the TMC leader termed Sitharaman as the "the worst Finance Minister" and said the way people die due to bite of 'Kala Nagini' (venomous snake), same way, people are dying due to Nirmala Sitharaman."
Minister for State in Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh, on June 24 informed that a new institution IN-SPACE (Indian National Space, Promotion and Authorisation Centre) has been formed to guide private sector's participation in space activities. "A new institution has been formed. It will be known as Indian National Space, Promotion and Authorisation Centre. It'll guide the private industries in space activities through encouraging policies in a friendly regulatory environment," said Jitendra Singh in a cabinet briefing. This is a part of the reforms announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under coronavirus economic stimulus package last month.
