A Polish Canadian group says it severed ties five years ago with a Polish-language newspaper that published an anti-Semitic tirade suggesting Jews are behind the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Toronto-based publication twice ran an article that contained an array of anti-Jewish slurs. As well as linking Jews to the coronavirus, it said the radical Islamist group ISIL was a Jewish creation to reduce the population of gentiles, that Israel is “the cause of all the world’s woes” and that Jews control the world’s stock markets.

B’nai Brith Canada, which first brought the article to light, has filed a hate-crimes complaint about the piece with Toronto police.

The Polish National Union of Canada’s website and an ad for the newspaper Glos Polski both indicated as of Thursday afternoon the two were closely connected.

The Polish National Union did not respond to a request for comment Thursday from the National Post .

But the Post received a letter from lawyer Marek Malicki  Friday afternoon indicating that he was acting for the union, and saying the union ceased having anything to do with Glos Polski in 2015.

“The Polish National Union does not subscribe to nor does it condone any articles published in Glos,” said Malicki.

He also said that Glos Polski (Polish Voice) was a different newspaper than the one that published the anti-Semitic article, whose front-page banner contains only the word Glos.

However, the URL, or Internet address, for the newspaper still contained the name Glos Polski late Friday.

And a promotion for Glos Polski that remained online Friday names the editor as Wieslaw Magiera, also listed as editor in the issues of Glos that contain the anti-Jewish article. The Glos Polski promotion also says the newspaper was “edited by” the Polish National Union of Canada.

Meanwhile, a page on the Polish National Union’s website that until late Thursday indicated it was closely linked with Glos Polski had been scrubbed of all reference to the newspaper by Friday afternoon.
