Record daily German COVID-19 death toll sparks Merkel 'mega-lockdown plan'

The German Chancellor wants a "mega-lockdown", mass-selling newspaper Bild reported, shutting down the country almost completely for fear of a fast-spreading variant of the virus first detected in Britain.
