It's Official - Medical Cannabis Cannot Harm Youby

Of all of the so-called ‘illicit’ or ‘recreational’ drugs available and circulating today, cannabis has long since been the black sheep for many people. It’s considered largely the easiest illegal high to purchase despite its notoriety across several countries worldwide – and unlike other more harmful and arguably addictive substances available on the streets, dope also carries a considerable number of reported health benefits. It’s been widely reported that medicinal marijuana can help to ease anxiety, tension, and even lower physical pain – however, for the longest time, anti-drugs campaigners have been keen to point out that regular use of cannabis can be just as detrimental to your health as some of the more infamous substances around. The World Health Organisation, however, argues against this – and in a landmark move which will no doubt be of very welcome news to millions of people worldwide, they have officially recognized medicinal marijuana as completely safe to take as prescribed.

The element that the WHO has effectively rendered safe is one of cannabis’ most controversial building blocks – CBD – which is the relaxant element in medicinal weed. The WHO has made the decision to assert that CBD should no longer be considered detrimental to long-term health or even addictive following years of study and speculative talk. “WHO has in recent years gathered more robust scientific evidence on therapeutic use and side effects of cannabis and cannabis components,” states the organisation’s landmark report. ”Recent evidence from animal and human studies shows that its use could have some therapeutic value for seizures due to epilepsy and related conditions.”

Smokers aren’t completely out of the woods yet, however, and while this decision is incredibly important for anyone suffering from conditions and whom may benefit from CBD, the WHO are yet to complete a full report on cannabis in general. It is the psychoactive element of cannabis – THC – that continues to raise concerns, and it is this which will likely fall under further scrutiny in the years to come. Cannabis is widely illegal across the world though is considered the least harmful of those which have received such a classification. While those campaigning against weed may argue that it could be a gateway drug to harder use, those for legalization have been known to argue that cannabis is far less detrimental to human health than legal substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and even sugar.
