As cases spike, ICMR wants manufacturers to make antigen kits; only 1 approved so far

As India is lifting lockdowns in various parts of the country in a phased manner, it is expected to see a further upsurge in Covid-19 cases due to increased transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus, calling for enhanced testing capabilities. In view of this, the Indian Council For Medical Research (ICMR), while arguing that it’s important to scale up testing capacity to the maximum possible levels, has invited manufacturers to make rapid antigen kits that are affordable and provide quick results.
