Trichy-born engineer’s posting as US Army info officer excites village

If US vice-president-elect Kamala Harris’s Tamil roots whipped up much excitement in the state, Raj Iyer has just given it another reason to celebrate. Appointed chief information officer of the US Army, the 50-year-old Indian-American hails from Manakkal in Lalgudi in the district. An alumnus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy, Iyer is the first civilian to be appointed to the post equivalent to an army general.
