Nashik farmers dump tomatoes on roads as prices crash

Several tomato growers from rural Nashik threw large amounts of the produce on roads on Thursday evening as they were unable to sell it in the Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Nashik. They were offered Rs 30 per crate (20 kg). But the growers refused it as the production cost is much higher. During the corresponding period last year, farmers got more than Rs 800 per crate. On Thursday, the minimum and maximum wholesale prices of tomatoes were recorded at Rs 20 and Rs 120 per crate, depending on the quality.
