Has the Latest Redesign of Snapchat Lost the Support of Its Most Loyal Users?by

Snapchat quickly became the go-to app and instant messenger service for a generation only a few years ago, having held its own against the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to offer a completely unique platform for photo and video-sharing, albeit on a time-limited basis. This unusual function has allowed for the app to find its own unique niche on smartphones, sitting neatly alongside the likes of Instagram for those who spend an inordinate amount of time taking selfies and documenting just about every aspect of their lives.

However, Snapchat has quickly become something of a bad word in recent days, and it’s all down to slight changes in the user interface. Long term users of the app are said to be particularly concerned about where certain features of the service have been relocated – meaning that to be able to access popular features such as Stories, you’ll now need to head to the Friends section of the application. While change is often a good thing, several users – in their droves, by the look of things – have taken to Twitter to complain directly to Snapchat’s support service in an effort to try and reverse the recent redesign.

It’s thought that Snapchat’s decision to revamp the UI stems from the need to stay relevant and to maximise revenue – however, as things stand, these changes are not sitting quite so prettily. Many people are even threatening to delete their account completely over the recent changes, meaning that some really are serious about how they use the platform. Who would have thought that changes to an interface would cause such as mass fallout? Time will tell, however, if fans and regular users grow accustomed to the new look service.

@SnapchatSupport on Twitter has remained particularly optimistic about the changes, having responded directly to requests for the old version to be reinstated with positive words for the future. “An update as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope you’ll enjoy it once you settle in,” they advised to one disenchanted user. Change is often a very good thing – but it seems that the choices made to revamp Snapchat are, at present, hardly being met with open arms. Will the firm choose to dial back their alterations and revert to an earlier version of the app? Time will tell.
