World records are a funny business. Some revolve around athletic achievement – others around big purchases, big buildings, big – anything, really. Some challenges and records that exist in the legendary pantheon that is Guinness World Records exist simply out of audacity – while some really are not best attempted whatsoever. A man in the US has, in recent days, announced that he has beaten a record that only few may ever hope to cross – all the while setting himself a brand new benchmark in the process – and it’s all thanks to his staple diet of McDonalds’ burgers. The man? Don Gorske. The challenge? Big Mac eating – and, if his record is anything to go by, this man loves his Maccy D’s.
Gorske has announced that he has officially consumed 30,000 Big Macs in his lifetime, amounting to at least one per day since 1972. He was previously placed into Guinness’ hall of fame two years ago with 28,788 burgers having passed his lips – meaning that he’s taken on over 1000 Big Macs since 2016 alone. Beating his milestone in a Wisconsin McDonalds in recent days, he only really owes his prowess to Big Mac eating down to his sheer love of the patties – and he’s not hanging up his choppers any time soon.

Gorske has kept the receipts and packaging off just about everything from his McD visits over the years despite having lost a considerable chunk of his hoard after tornado damage some years ago. “People make fun of me, but it never bothered me – at my last medical check-up, I had low cholesterol and my blood pressure was perfect,” Gorske – Mr Big Mac – advised. Certainly – while his odd diet seems to have worked for him and his record-breaking, this is perhaps not the best diet precedent on the block right now!
Gorske has been a huge fan of the iconic fast food sandwich for over four decades – and McDonald’s themselves paid tribute to the extraordinary – if potentially dangerous – record. “We are lovin’ Don Gorske’s enthusiasm for our iconic Big Mac sandwich and appreciate his ongoing loyalty,” a statement from HQ offered. Perhaps not from Ronald McDonald himself – but the brand is at least aware!
We all have a world record within us somewhere – though consuming thousands of burgers may not be the healthiest option, Mr Gorkse clearly knows his patties – but does he keep the gherkins that come on top?
