Iraqi, Iranian FMs discuss nuclear file, Iran-GCC relations

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, April 26 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussain, and his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Jawad Zarif, discussed on Monday the latest developments related to the Iranian nuclear agreement and Iranian-GCC relations.In a joint press conference with Zarif, held in baghdad, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said the two officials discussed developments in the Iranian-American dialogue in Vienna regarding the nuclear agreement, as well as "Iran's relations with the GCC and the Iraqi role in it." He added that the talks also tackled economic cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance it, and many other files and topics of common interest.For his part, Zarif said that his country appreciates what he described as "the pivotal role of Iraq in the region" and hopes that this role will increase in a way that serves security and stability, expressing his thanks for Baghdad's efforts to find a platform for dialogue in the region."We all live in this region side by side, and we must frame our relations according to the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect and non-intervention in the internal affairs of others," he added.The two officials also discussed the Iranian dialogue with the P4+1 regarding the Iranian nuclear agreement. Zarif expressed his hope that the new US administration would adopt "an acceptable policy" regarding the agreement.Zarif arrived in Iraq earlier Monday, and expected to meet President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhemi, and visit Najaf and the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
